The trio comprises violinist Leonid Baranov, cellist Milena Marena, and pianist Alla Belova, each bringing a wealth of international experience and a shared passion for classical music.

Their repertoire spans a wide range of classical compositions, and they are committed to delivering performances that resonate with both traditional audiences and new listeners.
Leonid Baranov
Violine
Leonid Baranov, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, studied violin across Russia, the USA, and Switzerland under renowned professors including Aneliya Skliarskaya, Vadim Gluzman, and Ilya Gringolts.

Performing as a soloist since age 15, he has appeared in prestigious venues such as Vienna Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall, and the Mariinsky Theatre. He has collaborated with orchestras like the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and St. Petersburg State Symphony, under conductors such as Alexander Titov and Yury Simonov.

Winner of the 2022 Rahn Music Prize, Baranov was a member of Philharmonia Zurich (2022–2024) and will join Luzerner Sinfonieorchester as principal 2nd violin in the 2024/25 season while continuing his global concert schedule. He plays a 1667 Antonio Mariani violin.

Milena Marena
Cello
Milena Umiglia-Marena, born into a musical family, began cello lessons with her mother and later studied under Rafael Rosenfeld, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Basel Academy of Music in 2018. She continues her studies with Thomas Grossenbacher at Zürich University of the Arts.

She has won awards in competitions including Murten Classics (2018), Schenk Soloist (2021), and Kiwanis Soloist (2023), along with distinctions at international events in Vienna, Padova, and more. Supported by foundations such as Friedl Wald and Aebi-Luthy, Milena has participated in masterclasses with cellists like David Geringas and chamber musicians such as Julia Fischer and Alexander Sitkovetsky. She has performed with ensembles like Modulor String Quartet, winning prizes in Swiss chamber music competitions.

As a soloist, Milena has performed in Switzerland, Argentina, Italy, and Spain with orchestras such as Neues Orchester Basel, Argovia Philharmonic, and Orchestra di Padova. In 2021, she reached the final round for principal cello at Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich.

Alla Belova

a Saint Petersburg-born pianist, is celebrated for her remarkable artistry and international achievements. She trained at the Mussorgsky College of Music and the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, later honing her craft under Prof. Benjamin Moser at Hochschule Luzern in Switzerland. Alla has performed at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall (New York), KKL (Lucerne), and Pierre Boulez Saal (Berlin), and participated in major festivals like Lucerne Festival, Heidelberger Frühling, and Schubert-Woche.

As a laureate of numerous competitions, including the International Student LiedDuo Competition and Franz Liszt Center Piano Competition, Alla has established herself as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician. Her collaborations span esteemed orchestras and conductors, with performances broadcasted on Radio 4 and Radio Petersburg. In 2023, she recorded with Claves Records and performed with leading ensembles such as the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester.

Alla’s creative spirit and extensive experience bring a dynamic energy to the Lucerne Piano Trio, enriching the ensemble’s exploration of classical and contemporary repertoire.

HOW WE SOUND
The trio made its inaugural performance on October 5, 2024, at the historic Hotel Château Gütsch in Lucerne. Their debut program featured Johannes Brahms' Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, Op. 8, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49, captivating a full house and marking the beginning of their journey together.

Beyond their performances, the Lucerne Piano Trio actively engages with audiences through social media platforms, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses into their rehearsals and insights into their musical journey. They are committed to fostering a deeper appreciation for classical music within the community and beyond.
